Witness:

Under the Garden Bridge.

That was the same transaction as the 15,000 Mausers.

The transaction did not go through.

Yes.

Mr Newman: Did you see any other documents relating to the sale of arms? Do you know the names of any of the principals? |

Many people came to me to buy arms. Some paid money on deposit in banks. In particular, did you see a contract dated November 23rd 1915? There was a contract made about that date.

As to this contract, what can you remember? I heard that the contract was fictitious, and that the arms were non-existent. You must remember one if you notice the names? I might have. And on one occasion you did see a number of arms? Some were in junka outside Woosung.

Did you see any under the Garden Bridge? I was told some were under that Bridge. About 15,000 were in logs under the bridge. That was four months ago.

Some were at Woosung? They were down Woosung, near the Saddles.

15,000. I do not

That particular lot did you see there? think there are any 15,000 Hanyang rifles in existence. Morrison said in Court that the arms were to be sold only to Chinese, as, if sold to any of the belligerent Powers, the opposing side might create trouble with China, is that true?

I never heard.

As a matter of fact, you were instructed to sell to Chinese only? It was distinotly stated that arms were to be sold to Chinese who had permits.

German Own Rifles.

Did it not strike you as rather remarkable?

No.

Many people

were selling rifles.

The Germans own the rifles.
